ROG.e 2026 Opening Highlights Just Energy Transition, Diversity and International Cooperation
The opening ceremony of ROG.e 2026, the world’s largest energy festival, organized by the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP) from September 21 to 24 in Rio de Janeiro, highlighted the importance of cooperation in the global market and the relevance of the energy transition to the future of the world economy. Held this Monday, September 21, at Riocentro, the ceremony brought together energy sector authorities to discuss the future of the industry, the need for an inclusive energy transition, and the strengthening of international partnerships.
In his opening remarks, IBP President Roberto Ardenghy highlighted the record level of technical engagement for this edition. “We will have four days filled with activities and opportunities for connections, knowledge exchange and business. One of the highlights is the enormous volume of technical papers, the largest we have ever received at ROG.e, with more than 1,800 technical papers submitted for selection.”
ROG.e Chair Nelson Narciso emphasized the event’s enormous scale, with a strong focus on diversity and inclusion, while stressing the need for an integrated approach to energy sources. “We have an extraordinary ability to combine different technologies and a development strategy to respond to the challenges of the future. The energy transition is an evolution that means knowing how to combine resources, technologies and knowledge.”
Petrobras President Magda Chambriard highlighted how the company is committed not only to energy security but also to Brazil’s energy transition, noting that the state-owned company operates 90% of the country’s oil and gas production. “In addition, we produce 80% of Brazil’s primary energy. There is no social well-being without energy, without a minimum level of energy consumption. For us, the transition needs to be fair and affordable for our society. It does not mean abandoning energy sources, but embracing other forms of energy,” Chambriard stressed.
The international landscape also took center stage with the presence of Mozambican President Daniel Chapo, who highlighted the importance of the partnership between the African country and Brazil. Chapo revealed that Mozambique, through the National Hydrocarbon Company (ENH), has signed a memorandum of understanding with Petrobras to establish partnerships in exploration and production.
The President of Mozambique presented the opportunities available in the African country, which has significant potential for natural gas production, particularly liquefied natural gas (LNG). “We seek to attract Brazilian companies and investors by guaranteeing regulatory stability and legal certainty. We want to export energy, but above all, to industrialize Mozambique, create jobs and supply the agricultural sector. We do not want only suppliers, but also partners to develop our industry and our country.”
