“O Mar Também é Delas” is an initiative by the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP), in partnership with the companies Capco, Equinor, Ocyan, Petrobras, Shell, SLB, Subsea7, and TotalEnergies.

Officially relaunched in September 2024, the project’s main goal is to understand and transform the reality of women working in the offshore environment.

Following an assessment based on feedback from female professionals working in the sector—mapping challenges, opportunities, and barriers that still exist—the Offshore Gender Equality Pact will be developed in collaboration with partner companies. This is a collective commitment to a fairer, safer, and more inclusive sector for women.

In addition to listening and jointly building solutions, the project also recognizes and values the professionals who have been paving the way in the sector. The “The Sea Is Also Female" Award, which will be featured at OTC Brazil 2025, will highlight the trajectories of women who excel in the offshore environment, serving as inspiration for more professionals to see themselves in this space.

In addition to focusing on changing the reality for women in the offshore sector, the initiative seeks to create connections, value career paths, and broaden the debate on the challenges faced by women who work on board or are preparing for this type of work.

Through content production and curatorship, the project shares best practices, opportunities, and information about events focused on the topic of gender equality in the oil and gas sector.

In the inspiration axis, real stories of women working offshore gain space and visibility. These are trajectories that inspire, strengthen networks, and help build a more welcoming and egalitarian environment for professionals in the industry.

More than just an awareness project, “The Sea is Also Female" is a movement to promote real change in the present and future of women in the oil and gas sector. On land and, above all, at sea.
