550 young professionals and students from 20 countries gathered in Rio de Janeiro on October 24 - 27 for the fifth edition of the WPC FLF, conceived by the World Petroleum Council and organized by the Brazilian Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels Institute (IBP), during the Rio Oil & Gas 2016. Participants had the opportunity to discuss topics such as leadership, sustainability, technology and innovation in a program comprising lectures, lounge talks, workshops and a technical visit to Fundão’s Technology Hub. Over 70 speakers including presidents, CEOs, CFOs and experts debated on leadership, technology, innovation and sustainability in the sector.

The highlights included the profile of the leader in 2030, and experts pointed out that authenticity, resilience, passion, committal, experience and sharing of knowledge would be key characteristics for a promising career in the future. The low-carbon economy, cleaner and more efficient operations, as well as industry challenges and outlooks over the next few years were among the debate topics. Technical visits and a dinner with the main oil companies’ CEOs completed the event's schedule, which included speakers such as Leonardo Junqueira, CEO for Repsol Sinopec, Eduardo Costa, CEO for Ouro Negro, Maryann T. Mannen, Executive Vice President and CFO for FMC Technologies and Mauro Andrade, Statoil’s Vice President of Supply Chain.

The WPC FLF was voluntarily organized by 67 young professionals of the industry, gathered in the IBP’s and WPC’s Youth Committees.[
