IBP conclui mais quatro projetos do Acordo de Cooperação Técnica em parceria com o IBAMA
The Brazilian Institute for Oil, Gas and Biofuels (IBP) and the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) presented on December 18 the conclusions from another four projects under a Technical Cooperation Agreement to expedite environmental licensing processes.
The agreement encompasses a total of 12 projects to be delivered by 2016. The first was the Shoreline Cleanup and Protection program launched in April this year. The Waste Manual, Environmental Risk Assessment Study, Environmental Education Portal and the Rhodolith Study (calcareous algae) were presented on the occasion.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE PROJECTS: Waste Management HandbookThis handbook provides oil service companies with guidance on improving drilling waste handling practices, such as storing waste in paved areas to avoid ground contamination. The document will be published as a handbook next year, at which time IBP will also extend the partnership with SENAI to offer courses to support base workers in accordance with the requirements in the new handbook.
DOWNLOAD Offshore Environmental Risk AnalysisA study based on the experience of other countries containing suggestions to improve environmental risk management in exploration activities. The analysis has been delivered to IBAMA and will be published in the second half of 2015 as a handbook providing guidance on decision making in licensing processes.
DOWNLOAD Environmental Education Portal (www.peabc.com.br)Launched by IBP and IBAMA, the Environmental Education Portal is designed to integrate the environmental and educational initiatives of oil operators in the Campos Basin geared to fishing communities and residents of coastal communities near oilfields. The portal has an intuitive interface with filters to help search for projects, so it is attractive to visitors.
Study on the State of the Art of Rhodolith ResearchLastly, a study on the state of the art of research on rhodoliths – calcareous algae found in shallow waters along Brazil's coast – was presented at the event. The study provides scientific information to support the licensing of oil and gas operations in areas hosting rhodoliths. A workshop is planned for the second half of 2015 to discuss the subject in greater depth.
Shoreline Cleanup and Protection Program (www.pplc.com.br)In this project, Brazil's entire shoreline – from Santa Vitória do Palmar, Rio Grande do Sul, to Oiapoque, Amapá – was mapped into a georeferenced database to improve environmental impact assessments related to oil and gas exploration and production activities off Brazil. The second phase of the project, now in progress, includes islands near exploration sites. The initiative is scheduled to be concluded in the first half of 2015.[
