The technology is 100% homegrown: from robots capable of inspecting every inch of a pipeline to programs for simulating fluid behavior and state-of-the-art valves and tools for oil production applications – all designed and created by local tech startups. Fifteen of them will be at Rio Pipeline 2015, an event hosted by the Brazilian Institute for Oil, Gas and Biofuels (IBP) at the SulAmérica Convention Center in Rio de Janeiro, up to 24 September.

A new addition to the event, the “Invention to Innovation” Pavilion has been created to showcase technology and innovation for the oil and gas value chain. It also offers exhibitors the opportunity to develop new business and partnerships, in addition to an extensive conference program. On the first day of the event, Doneivan Ferreira from C3i spoke about the importance of technology and communications in business models. Ricardo Yogui, from Agência PUC de Inovação, spoke about open innovation and relationships between large enterprises and startups.

IBP Technology Manager Melissa Fernandez underlined the importance of innovation to the industry. "Innovation needs to be a part of our culture. Companies need to grasp the value of innovation and its importance in navigating a crisis such as ours," she said.

The "Invention to Innovation" Pavilion will be open until tomorrow, 24 September. Entrance is free for Rio Pipeline visitors.[
