The importance of crisis management for companies operating in Brazil was discussed in a Conference Series organized by the Brazilian Institute for Oil, Gas and Biofuels (IBP) last Thursday, 24 September, in Rio de Janeiro. Chevron Corporate Affairs Director, Rafael Jaen Williamson, spoke at the event to an audience of oil and gas industry professionals.

In his lecture, the crisis management specialist emphasized the need for a company-wide focus on protecting brand reputation. This requires crisis management strategies to be in place, including policies, procedures and tools and well-trained staff.

“In a highly interconnected and dynamic world, it is vital for crisis management professionals to be alert to red flags, trends and threats to the company’s reputation. Crisis management is the ultimate demonstration of situational analysis, sound decision-making and superior execution skills,” said Williamson.

He also stressed the importance of IBP’s backing for companies in the oil and gas industry; the Institute’s reputation for standing for the truth has earned the respect of public opinion and the trust of its members.

The event also featured guest speaker Claudia Afflalo, Head of Communications and Media Relations at Chevron, and was moderated by Rosângela Nucara, Head of Institutional Relations at IBP.
