The concept of biorefineries is gaining increasing attention as the world population is becoming more aware of the problems concerning energy crisis and environmental pollution. Indeed, the traditional oil refining industry is undergoing several modifications which aim at introducing biomass feedstock in the existing refining facilities, thereby generating bio-based products which will improve the overall sustainability of the processes.

Such modifications, however, are not an easy task to undertake, since they require much innovation, especially in the field of Catalysis and Catalytic Processes. Undoubtedly, most traditional oil refining routes are catalytic and innovative routes from biomass will also be catalytic.

For that reason, CatBior has been created. The main goal of this event is to promote fruitful discussions regarding the development of new catalytic transformations to assure the implementation of biorefining in the traditional oil industry. Furthermore, CatBior aims at the generation of ideas and concepts, covering an extensive variety of topics ranging from pure science to technological challenges.

CatBior 2015 will preserve the philosophy upon which the other events have been based. Brazil is a green land, being the first country in the world to launch a national programme of biofuels. Hence, the fact that Brazil has been chosen to host this prestigious event is more than just a coincidence. It is surely recognition of the efforts that have been carried out in the country to make Brazilian society more sustainable. Moreover, the event will be held in Rio de Janeiro, a city which is famous for its green forest and natural beauties.

Join us in Rio de Janeiro. Be sure that the Organising Committee will endeavour to do its best to provide all attendees with cutting-edge conferences, exciting technical discussions and, last but not least, a delightful social programme.
